Sprouting Mung Beans

Mung beans have many aliases. You may call them green bean, mash bean, green gram or simply mung bean. It is known in the Philippines as munggo or monggo. It is known in Bengali as moog Dal. Where does it come from? It grows in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. It originates from the seed known as Vigna Radiata.
Sprouting is the process of sending out new growing seed. How can we sprout mung beans? It is very easy. There are no complicated steps to sprout a mung bean. All you need is a bowl and water. You can also use a jar to sprout a mung bean. Another alternative is a container. However, many preferred to use a large bowl. Using a large bowl could actually give enough air for mung bean to nurture. Let us learn more on sprouting mung beans.
Make sure that mung beans are thoroughly cleansed first. Rinse them well. Make sure you use fresh, clean water. After a thorough rinsing and once assured that any foreign particles are removed, make sure mung beans are thoroughly dried. Then, transfer the mung beans into a large bowl. Make sure there is enough space for each of the mung beans. Sink the mung beans into fresh water. Allow every bean to submerge in the water. This means that the bowl should be filled with clean water. Cover the bowl and leave it over night. You may live it for a standard of ten hours. Make sure that the bowl is located in a dim portion of the kitchen. A dark area actually enhances sprouting of mung beans. However, do not place it in a closed area like a cabinet. It needs a darker area but not too dark to the point that air is sacrificed. Make sure there is enough air and dimness for the mung bean to sprout freely.
The next day, get your mung bean. Rinse it again. Use clean, fresh water to rinse your mung bean. As soon as you are assured that it is already rinsed well, drain the water. You may use a strainer to make sure that the mung bean is thoroughly dried. Be mindful of the dipping droplets of water. This means that mung bean is not thoroughly dried yet. After a number of hours, you have to repeat the same process. Rinse your mung bean again with soaking fresh water. Then dry it thoroughly. Follow the same process in the morning and in the afternoon. When you are not rinsing and washing your mung bean, cover it with clean, dry cloth. Make sure it remains is a dim area of your kitchen. Follow the same process until your mung beans starts to sprout.
After four days, put your mung beans under the sun. By this time your mung beans should have already sprouted. In fact, you will already notice leaves developed in the sprouted area of your mung beans. You will also notice that your sprouted mung beans developed thin skin. You need not to worry because it will eventually fell off. You may now wash it with cold water.
You will be amazed on how nature works. Sprouting mung beans is as amazing as observing how a living creature develops from one stage to another. You might be surprised but you might actually enjoy it. Take your time and enjoy every minute of sprouting mung beans.
