How to Grow Wheatgrass at Home

If you love drinking wheatgrass juice for all of the amazing benefits, but are tired of paying for overpriced juices at your local health food store,it may be time to learn how to grow wheatgrass. With a few simple supplies and a little time you will soon have your very own crop of wheatgrass. Wheatgrass is easy to grow inside and does not take a lot of space or time.

First, you will need to get the materials necessary to grow wheatgrass.  You will need high quality wheatgrass seeds, organic soil and growing trays. You should be able to find these items easily at any home improvement store or nursery.

Next you will need to prepare your seeds to be planted by soaking them in a small jar or bowl of water for twelve hours.  Once the seeds have soaked for twelve hours you will then drain them using a colander or strainer.  After the seeds have had a chance to drain you will then be able to plant them.

When seeds have drained take damp soil and spread it about a half inch deep in the growing trays. Make sure your soil is damp all the way through for best results. Then you will be able to sprinkle the wheatgrass seed over the soil, there is no need to dig holes.  Water the freshly spread seeds and then cover the tray with a ventilated lid; most trays come with lids but if yours did not a damp paper towel or additional tray will work just fine.

The seeds will need the appropriate amount of water and warm temperatures to germinate. A temperature between 60 and 70 degrees should be sufficient. Water your seeds to keep the soil damp, but be careful not to give them too much, up to twice a day is the norm.

Soon you will be noticing wheatgrass spouts and you can remove the cover from your growing tray. Wheatgrass does not require direct sunlight, but you will see better results if it is exposed to some! You will not believe how easy it is to learn how to grow wheatgrass once you see your final product.

You can cut and use your wheatgrass when it is around 7 inches tall. Then you will be able to make energizing wheatgrass juice and smoothies that taste better than your local juice bar’s products. You will wish you had learned how to grow wheatgrass long ago!
